Associate (Advocacy) – GK Strategy
Overview
GK Strategy is seeking an Associate to join its advocacy and government relations practice. You will support senior colleagues in providing day-to-day management of corporate advocacy, public affairs, and strategic communications programmes for clients. You will also support on our political due diligence offering on M&A activity where required.
The role suits someone with around three years’ consultancy experience, a strong interest in UK politics, and confidence in building professional networks. Experience in education policy, or a clear interest in developing expertise in this area, is desirable.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead day-to-day delivery for retained clients, including stakeholder engagement, campaign activity and reputation protection
- Act as a primary contact for selected clients, leading small delivery teams, and managing agreed objectives and priorities
- Maintain your own ongoing knowledge of policy and political developments, advising clients on emerging risks and opportunities and helping them crystallise their policy asks
- Contribute to the development and delivery of client strategies alongside senior colleagues
- Play a leading role in client meetings and calls, confidently presenting updates and ensuring delivery of client objectives and priorities
- Deliver research, analysis, and written outputs for GK’s political due diligence work with private equity clients
- Support business development and marketing through research and organisational input
- Play a supporting role in new business including networking and proposal drafting. Developing marketing and policy content.
- Ensure compliance with GK client service standards, internal processes, and PRCA + ORCL standards
- Manage projects effectively, including accurate daily timesheet recording
- Act as an ambassador for GK externally
Skills and Experience
- A demonstrable interest in UK politics and public policy, and an ability to speak with confidence and authority on these subjects to clients and businesses
- Excellent organisation and time management
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to build good relationships and professional networks
- An enthusiasm for developing GK’s commercial research offering and supporting new business initiatives
- A commitment to your own professional development, including a desire to learn from others and pursue training or development opportunities of your own

Overview
GK Strategy is appointing a new Adviser to its specialist policy research practice. The Adviser will support the delivery of outstanding political, policy and regulatory due diligence reports and government relations strategies for our private equity investor client base. No prior knowledge or experience relating to private equity or investment banking is required for this role.
The Adviser will support the functioning and growth of GK through providing robustly researched, client-ready analysis across a range of policy areas including education, health and social care, energy, infrastructure and financial services.
Job Description
The position will be based in GK’s Insights practice. The Insights practice works with a range of mid-market private equity firms to support their investment activity. We advise on political, policy and regulatory risk across a range of highly regulated sectors during transaction processes, with a particular focus on education and health and social care.
Our team prepares comprehensive, evidence-based reports grounded in actionable recommendations for our clients. We work with private equity investors and management teams on both the buy and sell-side of transactions to help them understand and navigate emerging risks and maximise commercial opportunities arising from the political, policy or regulatory environment.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Drafting client-ready content, including for political due diligence reports and policy briefings, for client leads to review
- Supporting the delivery of primary research programmes, including interviews with policymakers and political stakeholders
- Monitoring the political, policy and regulatory environment for developments of importance to GK and our clients
- Supporting on client relationships, showing confidence in interactions with investors
- Supporting senior colleagues by contributing to client development and sell-on opportunities
- Drafting clear and concise policy summaries and analysis to be shared with assigned clients in a timely manner
- Networking effectively outside GK with confidence and demonstrating an appetite to build a professional network
- Commercial awareness of GK’s financial objectives, and the importance of ensuring profitable client relationships
- Identifying and highlighting new business opportunities to GK’s Insights and Advocacy practices, and opportunities to grow client accounts and relationships in a timely way
- Supporting marketing efforts – drafting blogs, social media posts, helping to deliver events, inputting into reports and GK’s monthly newsletter.
About You
The successful candidate will have:
- A demonstrable interest in politics, policy and current affairs
- Excellent research and written communication skills, including the ability to accurately assess and analyse manifestoes, government policy documents, consultations and legislation
- Commercial awareness and understanding of how political, policy and regulatory developments could impact an organisation and shape the risk profile for a potential investor
- Excellent organisation and time management skills, and the ability to manage competing priorities and tasks
- Attention to detail
- The ability to build good relationships and networks
- A desire to work in a fast-paced environment
- An enthusiasm for developing GK’s commercial policy offering and supporting new business initiatives across the business
- A creative mindset and the ability to use initiative for problem solving
- Any consultancy, in-house or parliamentary experience is desirable but not essential

Job Description
Your role is to support the delivery of GK’s outstanding political, regulatory and communications strategies for our clients. You will also aid the functioning and growth of GK through researching and sharing intelligence and insights relating to the political, business and communications environment.
Responsibilities:
- Monitoring the political, policy and regulatory environment for developments of importance to the company, private equity community and your assigned clients
- Drafting clear and concise summaries and analysis of political developments to be shared with assigned clients in a timely manner
- Support on the delivery of Political Due Diligence and investor research, working with advisers where required
- Being an ambassador for GK at external events and meetings
- Keeping your clients’ work in progress (WIP) workplan updated with activity and key milestones
- Responsibility for logistical arrangements associated with external meetings
- Tracking and creating stakeholder maps to identify key parliamentarians and officials of interest
- Drafting client-ready content such as briefings and articles that will be signed off by your client team
- Reviewing and updating alerts via our monitoring services
- Responsible for monitoring daily Hansard and parliamentary and media activities and sharing with relevant client teams
