Hosting a Mixed-Use Expo to Inspire Developers & Councils

Builders’ merchants Travis Perkins asked us to stage an event to encourage councils and developers to think creatively about how mixed use developments can be used to protect essential services, safeguard jobs and provide an innovative solution to London’s housing crisis.

Impact is the result of getting the right message to the right people. The success of Travis Perkins’ mixed use model depends on buy-in from an array of stakeholders and we identified high profile speakers to address the diverse audience. We set up a ‘mixed-use expo’ to bring together developers, councillors and planning officials to inform and discuss the benefits of the model. We secured high profile speakers from the GLA, local authorities and innovative partners – making sure they were fully briefed and on message.

The summit brought over a hundred councillors, planning officers and leading property developers together at the Southbank Centre. They heard Deputy Mayor Jules Pipe encourage them to collaborate to build more mixed use developments in London as a way of protecting industrial land and increasing the supply of homes. Subsequent polling of attendees has demonstrated that 67% of attendees said they were now actively looking for mixed use space in London.
