GK Strategy undertook a project with the University of Sheffield to help them to understand the extent and effectiveness of their stakeholder engagement across their largest Faculty. Our work was aimed at ensuring they are positioned appropriately both internally and externally with the appropriate stakeholders and decision makers.

In order to assess the extent of stakeholder relationships, GK undertook a range of phone and face-to-face interviews with key individuals within the Faculty. GK also asked questions on the CRM system used by the Faculty in order to identify problems with this which were impacting on the effectiveness of communications activity. GK produced a comprehensive report outlining the current status of the use of the CRM system and recommendations for ensuring this is used effectively across the Department. In addition, GK provided a full grid of stakeholder groups and an analysis of the current extent of relationships with these targets, and areas where gaps exist.

Acting as an outside body and being able to ask probing questions as a result, GK were able to identify fundamental problems and make recommendations to solve these in order to ensure an efficient and effective communications strategy. This project has helped to set the foundation upon which Sheffield University will step up its external communication activity.
