case study

overview

The University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) is one of the top 20 largest universities in the UK, with campuses in Lancashire, Cumbria and Cyprus.

GK was contracted in 2016 to help UCLan to secure domestic medical student places for their School of Medicine.

Due to government restrictions on numbers of UK-funded medical student places, UCLan’s medical school had been unable to take either UK or EU students. GK enabled the medical school to engage with the relevant stakeholders across both government and arm’s length bodies to put forward the case for domestic students to be taught medicine at the University. We also supported the University to draft consultation responses and create targeted messaging documents to build long-term sustainable relationships with the key governmental and regulatory actors. GK continues to work with the University to support their wider public affairs and communications work.

GK successfully lobbied to secure domestic medical student places for the academic year 2018/19. Furthermore, following this success, we are now working with the School of Medicine on their next campaign to secure further domestic students in 2019/20.
