case study

overview

National Schools Training (NST) is the leading provider of apprentices to schools and academies across the country. GK was taken on to raise awareness of National Schools Training among school and academy decision makers across the country.

To increase the amount of schools and academies engaging with NST to hire apprentices. To develop relationships within the sector trade press and the founder’s profile as leaders in the sector. To increase knowledge about the concept of taking on apprentices and awareness of how reforms will impact upon schools.

GK recognised that there was an insufficient knowledge of key government reforms coming in to force in 2017, namely the apprenticeship levy and public sector apprenticeship targets, and that NST needed to lead the way in providing advice and guidance on how best to manage this change in schools and academies. GK developed relationships with leading education and skills publications to secure thought-leadership and Op-Ed opportunities to talk about these reforms, enhancing NST’s reach, profile and search engine optimisation rating. GK led the ‘One By 2020’ campaign, which is urging every school in the country to take on at least one apprentice by 2020. We scheduled press campaigns demonstrating the growth of apprentices in schools. We also ran a Parliamentary event to promote the value of apprentices in schools – encouraging MPs to promote them as a provider to their Head Teacher networks.

GK secured extensive media coverage, thought leadership and Op-Ed opportunities in Schools Week, Sec Ed, Academy Today and on BBC Newsnight. Furthermore, in 2016, NST worked with over 2,000 apprentices.
